Happy Birthday to me from my lovely friend Micki Hassemer, founder of Moonstar Charms.
“Each piece is built with kind, powerful, thoughtful intention towards it’s purpose. Always wear with conscious intentions for the highest good of all and the highest good will come to you. Made to last using only the best ingredients – from the precious stones down to the clasps and wire.”
It was a Lunar Eclipse on Monday. And it was the Winter Solstice on a Full Moon on Tuesday. Today, we celebrated the return of the Sun King by dancing out in the alley. Sunshine poured down on Hollywood during a break in the storm. And during the amazing sunset, we were especially lucky to share a double rainbow. And even then, I was told it was a triple rainbow!

December 21, 2010 Dark Delicacies
Burbank, California
I was able to sneak over to see Ted and Beth at Dark Delicacies inbetween classes tonight. I wanted to see all the Santas! How could I not? I also found two new favorite smellies: Dragon’s Bone and Dragon’s Tears. Next time, I will take home Dragon’s Milk. But apparently I missed the toys being picked up by the firemen!
In a small village in Bali is an old man who makes jewelry. He made this beautiful silver and amethyst butterfly pendant necklace. It arrived in Los Angeles in the care of my friend Josh Liberman… sometime between my birthday last year and my birthday last friday. Josh gave it to me on Saturday. He said he’d been waiting to give it to me for my birthday.
It isn’t just that this gift is beautiful, it’s the thought and love that was nurtured into this gift that makes our friendship beautiful.
I first met Vinay in October of 2006 at the American School of Martial Arts in Burbank. I remember his words: “Life is like sampling music. You take a track here, and a track there, and you put it together and play it. If you don’t like it, you put the tracks back and put down new tracks. You create your own life.” These are the most important words that I’ve carried with me to this day.
Now, back from Boston and settling back into life in LA, Vinay and I talked about everything under the sun as the relentless rain poured down on us today. We talked for hours leaving no room for silence. We have formed a solid friendship that is based on our foundation and love for music, art, martial arts, and the people who have been an inspiration to us in our lives.
My good friend Chris took me out for an early birthday dinner at the Bona Vista Lounge, a revolving cocktail lounge on the 34th floor of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel with a panoramic view of DTLA. It was perfect. I don’t eat very much. Actually, I do, but not 10 ounces of meat! We shared prime rib, raw oysters, caesar salad, and a fancy drink in a fancy glass. The night air was cool with light rain. Here are some photos with rooftop views from the Ritz Carlton and The Standard.
