Cleo

Cleo

When my friend told me his cat’s name is Cleo, I asked him if she is a black cat. He said yes, how did I know?

My first thought in reply to him was “Cleopatra. Black….”
But the truth really was that I saw her face in my head.

And when I met her, this is the exact face I saw.

Cleo.

I love this cat. I love Cleo.

Buffalo Dreams

I have nine totem animals. The Buffalo is my South totem animal. The animal in the south protects the child within and reminds me when to be humble and when to trust, so that innocence will be balanced in my personality.  I have waited to post these photos of the buffalo I have met. I see buffalo in my dreams. I see buffalo in my life.

Buffalo…

You bring us,

The gifts of life,

Hear our prayers,

Smoke rising,

Like Phoenix.

We are reborn,

Within the sacred words.

Buffalo was the major source of sustenance for the Plains Indians.  It gave meat for food, hides for clothing, warm and soft buffalo robes for long winters, and hooves for glue.  The medicine of Buffalo is prayer, gratitude and praise for that which has been received.  Buffalo medicine is also knowing that abundance is present when all relations are honored as sacred and when gratitude is expressed to every living part of creation.

Summer Solstice

I am not one to be bottled up inside although you may find me there most of the time curled up with a good book. But I follow the Sun and the Moon, and on the day of the Solstice, you’ll find me outside. Today I met three creatures. I actually met four, but the Monarch was carried away by the wind, I could only stare without my lense.

Lizard on a Rock

Humming Bird

Crow? or Raven?

Flowers came to life in a nearby nursery, soon to be renamed Dragonfly Therapy. But I was only able to capture this.

A Wildflower

I leave you with this from 365 Tao by Deng Ming-Dao.

When the true light appears,
The entire planet turns to face it.

The summer solstice is the time of greatest light. It is a day of enormous power. The whole planet is turned fully to the brilliance of the sun. This great culmination is not static or permanent. Indeed, solstice as a time of culmination is only a barely perceptible point. The sun appears to stand still. Its diurnal motion seems to nearly cease. Yesterday, it was still reaching this point; tomorrow, it will begin a new phase of its cycle.

Those who follow Tao celebrate this day to remind themselves of the cycles of existence. They remember that all cycles have a left and a right, an up side and a down side, a zenith and a nadir. Today, day far surpasses night, and yet night will gradually begin to reassert itself. All of life is cycles. All of life is balance.

So celebrate, but be not proud. For whenever you celebrate high achievement, the antithesis is also approaching. Likewise, in misfortune, be not sad. For whenever you mourn in grief, the antithesis is also approaching. Those who know how to reach the peak of any cycle and remain glorious are the wisest of all.

White and Grey

September 28, 2008.  I believe this was the first day I met the rabbits. White and Grey. Except that Grey looked more Brown, but my parents called him Grey, and so he was. I’m not even sure of the gender of either one of them. They were always together. As we got to know them, Grey seemed more dominant, or perhaps younger, as he wouldn’t share carrots with White. When they each got a carrot, Grey would try to take White’s carrot too! So, here they are, on that first day, basking in the sunset, wondering who I am.
