Fat Albert Einstein
Hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Los Angeles resident Christopher Vagnoni a.k.a. Fat Albert Einstein is a multi-instrumentalist composer/producer with a taste for dusty rhythm driven songs, reminiscent of funky cross genre soundtrack themes. Christopher plays drums and melodica in the dubbers rock band Team Scrub, who was Aloe Blacc’s backing band for a brief stint. As Fat Al, he has worked with Clutchy Hopkins, the Kone and Stoup of Jedi Mind Tricks. Currently signed on Switchstance Recordings, he will be releasing his new project AFTER THE BEEP on 11/11/11.
Raised as a visual artist, drawing, painting and sculpting, music came later in life. “I realized I can apply similar aesthetics used in visual composition in my song composition. I always enjoy getting my hands dirty when I work, so that emotions may be felt in a graphic sense. Live instruments offer me this sensation. Like sculpture and painting, you can feel intention left in the piece, be it through a strong gestural stoke or by taking a breath and pausing, stepping back, so to leave a moment naked and raw in its silence. This is important to me. This is what I know.”
Fat Al is the resident DJ at Largo in Los Angeles, selecting vinyl only sets for a long list of musicians, comedians and actors such as: Sarah Silverman, Jon Brion, Aziz Anzari, Zach Galifanakis, Steve Martin, Louis CK, Larry Coryell, Brad Meldau, Nels Cline, Larry David, Andrew Bird, Adele, Fiona Apple, Jack Black and Will Farrell.
Fat Albert Einstein – After The Beep – Out now!
11.11.2011 11:11Greetings,
Today marks a very special day for us. It’s 11/11/11 and we’re excited to present you “After The Beep“, the album of our first non-german artist “Fat Albert Einstein” from Los Angeles. A few years ago Kabanjak dug in the realms of good old MySpace and ran into him. After a bunch of messages both started to work on songs together and this experience will be released next year. But Fat Albert also sent us a record he made during his hitchhikings through the USA. He took answering machine tapes he found in Thrift Stores and layered them over his earthy drums and melodica chants. We were so stoked about this dirty recordings that we decided to put it out. Now it’s here and it’s like a gift we made us ourself for our 10th label anniversary.

I was a bit inebriated and working my flash proved to be too difficult. With film these would have been better. But I’m posting these for fun.

Live Acoustic Show
La Seine
July 30. 2011
I met Elan this last spring at The Joint LA during one of the Reggae All Star Jams. Amazing. Down to earth. And soulful. Elan’s music brings me back to my carefree days, when I spent summers outside playing in the streets, swimming with my friends, going to the beach. And it reminds to always live in this peace and love. The music of his band entrances me, all the time. Each note is a step in the sand, a laugh into the ocean, flag football in the streets, tree-climbing at dusk. He also covers my favorite songs and I love the covers more than the originals. Learn more about Elan and come to the next show at La Seine on August 27.
